This challenging overnight camping trek is for those seeking the ultimate volcanic landscape, rewarding you with an unforgettable, front-row view. After a night spent under the stars, you’ll stand on the summit at sunrise and watch as the morning light illuminates the smoke plume of an active volcano—an experience that is simply unparalleled.
Your adventure begins at 8:00 AM as we pick you up from your accommodation in Yogyakarta, Magelang, Semarang, or Solo. Enjoy the scenic drive through the Javanese countryside, watching as the twin peaks of Merapi and Merbabu grow larger on the horizon. Upon arrival at the trailhead in Selo, we will handle all the registration, conduct a final gear check, and your guide will provide a comprehensive safety briefing. We begin our 3-4 hour trek to the campsite, starting through peaceful pine forests and gradually ascending onto the volcanic slopes. The trail will open up to reveal stunning landscapes, and we'll take breaks to rest and enjoy the scenery along the way. In the late afternoon, we arrive at our scenic campsite where our porters will have your tents set up. As evening falls, enjoy a delicious, freshly cooked dinner and a hot drink while watching the sunset. As the stars appear, you’ll have a breathtaking view of Mount Merapi right from your tent—a truly magical sight. Your guide will brief you on the plan for the early morning summit push before you get a good night's rest.
The day begins with a 3:00 AM wake-up call. We'll provide a hot drink and your first light breakfast to fuel you for the final ascent. Hiking by headlamp under a blanket of stars, we begin the summit push at 3:30 AM. Your guide will lead you to a special, hidden spot on the summit ridge—our secret vantage point where you can witness both the golden sunrise to the east and the magnificent, unobstructed view of Mount Merapi to the south. This breathtaking panorama is the ultimate reward for your efforts. After soaking in the incredible views and capturing unforgettable photos, we will descend back to the campsite where your second, more substantial breakfast will be waiting for you, freshly prepared by our team. Once you are refueled and have packed your gear, we will begin the final descent back down to the trailhead in Selo. From there, our private transport will be waiting to take you back to your accommodation, arriving in the late afternoon with a profound sense of accomplishment and memories to last a lifetime.
